Having never before visited the Amalfi Coast, I had no idea where to stay or how to plan our trip. With the help of Massimo and Marco, owner and property manager of Casa San Matteo, we were able to arrange an incredible vacation, which we enjoyed while living in a spacious, authentic, and beautiful apartment. The apartment is very clean and is exactly as it appears in the photos, but in reality, it is basically impossible for a photograph to accurately capture the splendor of the view of the sea and coast. The rooms are spacious, nicely appointed, and the living space was perfect for our party of 6 adults. The 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms gave everyone privacy and the common areas were large enough for group entertainment, as was the incredible terrace, where we regularly spent time in the mornings and evenings. The kitchen is well appointed and convenient for meal preparation. The property manager, Marco communicated very well with me, prior to the trip, greeted our car at check in and was instrumental in arranging our transportation from and back to the airport, in Rome, Positano Porters to carry our luggage down the many steps to the apartment, guided tours of Capri, Herculaneum, Pompeii, and Mount Vesuvius, as well as transportation to the Path of the Gods, and restaurant recommendations. He helped us with food shopping and delivered wonderful wines to the apartment for us to have during our stay. In addition, Marco and his assistant, prepared absolutely delicious dinners on the evening of our arrival and departure, which far surpassed our expectations. The food was incredible, wines delicious, and his hospitality welcoming. By the time our trip had ended, we all came to think of Marco as a friend, rather than a property manager. The Amalfi Coast is a spectacular place, filled with amazing natural beauty and incredible history. The ferries make visiting other towns along the coast easy and each town we visited had a magic all its own. We enjoyed cooking classes, churches and the Amalfi Cathedral, shopping, villas in Ravello, and delicious restaurants. One caution I would give is that the stairs can be a challenge to anyone who is not in good physical shape and even to those who are, but aren’t used to climbing hundreds of steep steps everyday. I would very highly recommend it as a vacation destination, and specifically with a stay at the Casa San Matteo! Thank you Massimo and Marco for a job well done

The house is an older classic Italian style villa which was perfect for our family of 7! Although there are many steps to get to the house, it was definitely worth it to be out of the hustle and bustle of the craziness below. The highlight of our stay was Marco, the property manager/tour guide extraordinaire! It’s an absolute must to use his services! He took us on many adventures we could not have experienced without his local knowledge. We also loved all of his restaurant recommendations and even hired him to cook at the house one night! It was a fabulous week and we can’t wait to come back!.”

“Our stay here could not have been better. Positano was our first stop on our Amalfi tour- if we did not have Marco to greet us - our trip would not have been the same. He arranged parking, helped us navigate a late night dinner as we arrived well past things were closed and gave us some excellent recommendations along the way- he even brought us cake!!! We had been looking at some of the high end hotels to stay in, but when friends of ours decided to vacation with us we looked to Airbnb. The view rivaled all the hotels we had considered. The apartment is spacious but with just 4 of us, also felt intimate. Be prepared for some steps, but there is also a gradual winding road you can take to and from beach and dinner. Would definitely stay here again.”

“I don’t think you could stay at a better place in Positano then at this fabulous home. The view and patio are spectacular. The house is more spacious than the pictures leads you to believe. The house contains pretty much everything you need to live there a very comfortably for a week or more. What made the trip really special was Marco, Massimo’s brother, who is the host while you are there. He will greet you and make sure you have an excellent experience. Marco is a tour guide and lives in Positano. He knows the area like the back of his hand. I recommend that you ask him to take you on his “off the beaten path” tour of Capri that ends with a four star meal and swim high above the Mediterranean. He also arranged a fantastic boat trip, including cliff diving and lunch in a small fishing village. He arranged taxis and made restaurant reservations for us. 5 stars for Marco”

“Great Villa for a relaxing time in Positano! Very clean and stylish place. Terrace view is to die for and a joy to wake up in every morning. If your plans include the beach everyday just know it's a bit of a walk, but that is standard in this region of Italy. We recommend the dinner service on the Terrace! Very authentic experience.”

“We loved Massimo’s place. The apartment is charming and spacious, a tranquil place to retire to after being on the busy streets of Positano. It has a well stocked kitchen which we all loved cooking in. The beds were very comfortably and we also loved the antique furnishings and paintings. It was also great having a daily maid service. Our two children loved the big terrace , on which we also enjoyed many drinks with friends. Our host was Marco, whose knowledge and insight into Positano really elevated our experience of it. He sent us to the best restaurants and took us on an amazing boat trip along the Amalfi coast. Be sure to book a tour with him when you are here!”.

One of the most accommodating hosts I have ever met. We were a group of ten and stayed for 3 nights. Even though we arrived later than expected, Marco (Massimo’s brother) was there to welcome us, he offered us wine and showed us the house. He was very responsive and happily assisted with arranging taxi services during our stay and replied instantly to any questions we had. The house is in a wonderful location in Positano with a great view. The house inside is very spacious and fitted us all perfectly. Thank you for making our stay special!

You will not be disappointed in staying in this lovely home. All the things you need and the view was beautiful! Very clean. Make sure you get Marco to show you around and get him to fix you dinner/ lunch at the house on the terrace. His stories and his love for food and wine will make your stay a lasting memory!

I cannot find the words to express how wonderful this place is. I would give this 5 more stars if I could. It was by far our favorite part of Italy and we visited Rome before coming to Positano. Everything was fantastic - the views, the welcome, the experience, the food, the house, cleaniless, everything. Massimo and his brother Marco made this the best trip we have taken so far. Marco’s impeccable attention to detail made our stay absolutely fabulous, and the tours around the area were once in a lifetime experiences. We felt so peaceful and relaxed, yet we did some awesome tours! If you are thinking of the perfect place and experience, you do not need to look any further. We hope to come back soon to visit this little piece of heaven.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Casa San Matteo. We were two families for 4 staying in the Don Giovanni apt. We had an amazing time. The house is rustic with lots of character, but had everything we needed. We cooked at home and ate out - both ably assisted by the wonderful Marco. He was able to make recommendations for activities, beaches and restaurants and then set it all up for us. We enjoyed Marco's fabulous fried pizza dough that the children devoured, an excellent private boat trip along the Amalfi coast with a skipper, watching fireworks in the bay and sampling many of the wonderful restaurants in and around the town. The location of the house was excellent, lots of steps - but this is Positano and you need them to burn off the calories!

Wonderful accommodations. Our host, Marco, made our trip spectacular. His guided tours took our visit to the next level. We loved the private boat ride with Massimo to Capri, the guided tour around Salerno, Francesco's very thorough guidance through Pompeii and the amazing path of the Gods. Thanks so much for sharing your house with us. Giovanni was amazing too - cleaning and straightening without being obtrusive and setting us up with fresh food and coffee when we arrived. A+!!!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in May. Casa San Matteo-Carmen Villa was absolutely stunning. It was easy to get in and out of town by foot. The architecture of the villa is stunning. The view from the private patio was the most spectacular part of our 8 day Italian vacation. We could not have been happier here. Giovanni was so helpful and accommodating during our trip. At the end of the day, coming back to the patio to watch the sun set on the mountain was just fabulous. There are close shops nearby to grab some wine, limoncello and appetizers. Enjoying those on the patio was just fantastic and will forever be how we remembered Positano! I would highly recommend staying here!

Thank you for lending your Villa to us for a most memorable trip. It was all we were looking for, and more! We loved the character of the Villa. No Five star hotel could compare to the charm and beauty of the Villa. Marco and Giovanni were wonderful! Thank you! We had a fantastic stay at Massimo's studio in Positano. The location is amazing (although there are a lot of stairs but great exercise) and the views from the balcony are unreal. We would highly recommend this studio to anyone considering a stay in Positano. In terms of navigating around Positano and the Amalfi coast, eating out, where to go for the best views ("path of the gods walk") Massimo's brother Marco is always on hand for advice and is extremely hospitable. His advice was invaluable during our trip. This is a great value for money option when compared against hotels in the area, and the kitchen within the studio is very handy. The space on the terrace is much larger than you expect and includes a breakfast table area and 2 deckchairs to absorb the views which are breath-taking. 5 stars out 5.

We had a wonderful stay in Positano. From the beginning communication was great. The transaction was flawless. Giovanni met us to give us the key and show us around. The apartment was warm and cozy when we arrived. The apartment size is perfect for 2. Good size kitchen and bathroom and both fully equipped. The terrace off of the living room had beautiful views of the town below and the location was perfect. We parked our car in a lot not far from the apartment. Once in Positano, a car is not necessary or recommended. We had some "hair raising" drives in the car along the Amalfi coast.
Marco was very cordial and a great source of information/help for us. He gave us some wonderful recommendations for not only places to go but places to eat too. He set us up with an amazing tour guide for Pompeii. We also visited a lemon farm in Amalfi and brought home some Limoncello. 
We would love to return again someday.

Grande! It was a perfect home for our one week trip to Positano. The rooms were spacious. The Bathrooms and showers excellent. The views from Balcony spectacular. It was clean. Kitchen had all the amenities we needed. It was nice to have a washer and dryer. Internet worked well. Marco the owner was there daily to make sure all well. He was very helpful with restaurants and excursions. Giovanni took good care of the house every day. Its a gem this property.

Stunning View

Stayed here for a week, we were met by Marco as Giovanni was away. There are many stairs from the main road, so be prepared when you gave suitcases to carry. The apartment was spacious with a beautiful bowl of fruit on arrival. Marco gave us a few tips for places to eat & mentioned a couple of tours he could book if interested. He was always in a rush when we wanted some information & we didn't seem to experience the personalised attention mentioned in other reviews or as the people staying in the larger appartment received. We managed to find plenty to do, and regularly visited the local restaurant suggested. the stairs are about 450 down to beach but we actually enjoyed the workout! If you walk up the steps from the main road you can catch the bus to amalphi or Sorrento. We had a car & Marco arranged discount parking for us at the garage. On our last day we met Giovanni, he gave us a tour of the other villas Incase we stayed again, he was very pleasant & helpful. Would recommend this place, no matter what, the views from the balcony are stunning, a great place to enjoy breakfast or stay in, rest the legs, cook your own dinner, enjoy a wine or some limoncello from the amalphi region. Would definitely stay here again if ever returned & woul recommend to others. The only downside was the wifi it was intermittent or non existent. When we mentioned it, Marco said you can't get good wifi in Positano but we seemed to get it everywhere else we went with no problems.

Casa San Mateo is extremely good value for money in a town like Positano. The arrangements were fantastic. We were met by Giovanni and helped for planning all activities by Marco. Both of them were very helpful and Giovanni used to clean up our rooms daily which was a pleasant surprise. All in all.. A great experience and would definitely recommend this

Second year back at Casa San Matteo and still just as amazing! Best location and views and the apartment has everything you would need and beautifully decorated. Giovanni, Marco and Massimo are great and so helpful. Perfect place in Positano!

Our stay at Casa SanMatteo was wonderful and exactly what we were looking for. Our's was a celebration of a birthday, a coming together of our family (including four children in their 20's), and a creating of a memory that we would always remember. Casa SanMatteo gave us exactly what we were looking for! Every day and night when we arrived at the villa, we were immediately drawn to the balcony of the terrace with it's breathtaking views. It provided the perfect backdrop for casual lunches, sunbathing, morning awakenings, elegant 5 course dinners, impromptu dancing, and the peace and relaxation that we all loved. The villa is well equipped with ample room for our family of six having two bedrooms on the main floor and two on the lower floor, a large, charming kitchen, four bathrooms, and wonderful light throughout. Giovanni, who was always pleasant and helpful, provided clean towels and linens on all beds upon arrival, beach towels upon request, and the stocking of the basic necessities, i.e.: soap, paper goods, cleaners, condiments, oil/vinegar, and necessary household instructions for running the home. The most unexpected and truly invaluable perk of Casa SanMatteo is Massimo Predieri's brother, Marco Predieri. He is not merely a tour guide but rather an incredibly knowledgeable, honest, and congenial concierge, who spent so much time with and helping our family that our daughter affectionately referred to him as Zio Marco!! Since he is so well liked and known in and around Positano, we not only had an insider's perspective but were treated like friends wherever we traveled with him or whenever we mentioned him as our referral. He is a gem! Our visit ended much too soon, but our memories with last forever. We hope the same will be true for you. Ciao!!!
